marina with boats in oxford maryland

The summer season is practically here at the Combsberry Inn, with its official start date on June 21. And what better way to welcome the summer season than with a day at the boat races?! Well, in Oxford, we’re celebrating with a day at the cardboard boat races! That’s right, each year the town of Oxford gathers for a few hours of friendly competition along the shores of the Tred Avon River. It’s a truly unique Eastern Shore event and we can’t wait to attend once again this year!

The 2015 race marks the 27th anniversary of the Cardboard Boat Races in Oxford, MD and will be held on Saturday, June 27 at The Strand. Contestants arrive with an eclectic mix of boats, all constructed out of cardboard and ready to float their way to victory. The races take place in shallow water of course, so that contestants can help steer their floating beauties around the track. Some of the boats are returning champions – some of the crafts have even been racing for the past five years!

Interested in racing? Registration opens at The Strand at 9am. The first race begins at 11am and the event typically lasts until 1:30pm. Not up for racing? We highly suggest attending anyway to enjoy the festivities. It really is small town summer fun at its finest. It’s just another reason why we love calling Oxford and the Eastern Shore of Maryland home! The small, waterfront towns of the Eastern Shore offer so many terrific opportunities to get outside and bask in all of the glory that summer has to offer. From the annual Cardboard Races in Oxford, to the Taste of Cambridge (coming up in July), to Plein Air Easton, there are a wide array of events to enjoy this summer during your stay with us at the Combsberry Inn. Find an event that suits you and start planning your stay with us today. See you all at the Cardboard Races!

During our off-season from November to March, the Cottage and Carriage House will be available for rent with a 20% off discount to accommodate for a temporary absence of breakfast.
