History and Combsberry go hand and hand, which should come as no surprise considering the rich history of our property. Our historic 1730 English Country Manor is situated on 30-acres of land that has borne countless memories for us, our guests, and the many visitors who enjoyed the property before us. We strive to keep the charms of the past alive at the Inn, which is why we take great pride in items such as our carriages and our model train set. Located in the enclosed front porch of the Inn, our model train is a sight to behold, carrying its own history for guests to enjoy and learn about during their stay with us.
Combsberry is home to the 3.5” Gauge O.S. Britannia Live Steam Locomotive, which is a hand built, live steam model that is a striking example of the steam locomotive built by the British Railways at Crewe in January 1951. The first locomotive built for the British Railways, the Britannia was the first of 55 locomotives in the Britannia class. The train was used for fast mixed traffic routes, maintaining speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. The Britannia ran for 15 successful years of service before it was withdrawn in May 1966. Our model is an exact replica and is painted Brunswick green. If you look closely, you will see the early British Railways locomotive crest!
At Combsberry, we proudly maintain the perfect balance between our storied past and our limitless future. We love combining past, present, and future in every aspect of the Inn, all in an effort to better serve you, our valued guests. Take a trip to see us at the Inn this fall and be sure to take a few moments with the Britannia. See you soon!
