St Michaels MD oysters on half shells over ice with lemon

Oh how we love our local cuisine! Seafood abounds on the Eastern Shore thanks to our proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. Maryland blue crabs, soft shell crabs, fresh catches, little neck clams….the options for fresh seafood are seemingly endless at our local restaurants and markets, but what we really look forward to this time of year are the oysters! Fresh, briny, savory oysters are divine when they are shucked right in front of you and slurped down with a little hot sauce and horseradish. Of course we’ll take oysters in just about any form….fried, Rockefeller, wrapped in bacon, or stirred into a steaming pot of chowder. In case you can’t tell, we love all things oysters, which is why we look forward to watching our guests enjoy the annual St. Michaels OysterFest each year! It’s a full day of fall fun at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM), and one that you certainly do not want to miss!

When: Saturday, October 31 – 10am-4pm

Where: Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Micheals, MD.

If you’ve never been to St. Michaels, the annual OysterFest is the perfect opportunity to explore the coastal town that was hailed as USA Today’s 2015 Top Ten Best Coastal Small Towns. Shopping, dining, history, sightseeing…St. Michaels has it all. Of course, the OysterFest is the icing on the cake.

What: Admission to the event is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $6 for children between the ages of 6 and 17. The all-encompassing celebration of the Chesapeake oyster includes live music, children’s activities, boat rides, oyster demonstrations, harvesting displays, retriever demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, documentary films, and an oyster stew competition among regional chefs. You can see why we love this event so much!

Back at the Inn: St. Michaels, MD is just a short drive from the Combsberry Inn, providing the perfect escape after a long day of exploring the town and enjoying the festival. The crisp October weather is perfect for a late afternoon or early evening stroll along the dock to enjoy one of our renowned sunsets. Or grab a bottle of wine or a warm cup of tea and relax in front of the fireplace. Fall is our favorite time of year at the Inn, particularly after a day spent exploring one of our nearby towns. Experience all that St. Michaels, Oxford, and the Combsberry Inn have to offer. Book your stay for the CBMM OysterFest today!

During our off-season from November to March, the Cottage and Carriage House will be available for rent with a 20% off discount to accommodate for a temporary absence of breakfast.
